To the astonishment of the children, Jesus had moved from the mountain at the front of church and was positioned gazing up at the tree, from which a little figure of a man peered out! Day Two had switched focus; the story of Zaccheus, which illustrates how we are named, known, unique and loved provided the springboard for the day’s activities.

Building on the routine established the previous day, the youngsters spent an hour in free play outside, exploring games, undertaking challenges and generally, having fun with new and familiar friends before heading into church for snacks, songs, and a magical re-appearance from Sparky and Sam. Their conversation, punctuated with witticisms and comedic banter, revolved around ‘labels’, which we are both given and give. The main point being, that Jesus called the unpopular and mean tax-collector, Zaccheus by name, not his label. He saw the potential for change in him, and loved him.

More outdoor play was enjoyed and all the Zones were open. Each one had activities linked to the overall theme of the day, helping to reinforce the fundamental message that we are ‘fearfully and wonderfully made’.

Treat of the day in the Curiosity Zone, involved tie-dyeing white t-shirts. Each one was transformed, unique in colour and pattern, much like ourselves.

Following another picnic lunch in church and a viewing of the latest Wallace and Gromit film, ‘Vengeance Most Fowl’, the children, now refuelled and refreshed, headed back outside for more fun in the sun.

A never-ending supply of drinks helped keep the little ones hydrated on one of the hottest days of the year. Sun hats and sun cream were essential equipment and shady areas provided some cooler respite from the sun.

The final return in to church gave the children an opportunity to showcase their theatre skills and re-enact the story of Zaccheus and participate in some well-loved action songs, before heading off home, with even more exciting stories to tell!
