Forget the international, much publicised ‘Fashion Weeks’ in New York, Milan, Paris and London; the savvy dressers in the Over Wyre community had their very own ‘event of the year’ to look forward to – the ‘Fun with Fashion’ evening at St. James’ church Stalmine!
This annual event has become a staple in the social diaries of many local village ladies and 2025, was no exception.
Queues at the church door formed in advance of the start time, with ladies keen to bag a good seat alongside the red-carpeted ‘catwalk’. Of course, a glass of bubbly and a homemade shortbread biscuit also proved an incentive to arrive early.
The day had been unusually warm and bright, but even that was eclipsed by the warm welcome and sunshiny smiles that would-be shoppers were met with inside the church.
Eleven ‘disciples of fashion’ recruited from the congregation and their friends, took to the catwalk with one aim in mind – to raise as much money as possible for two causes dear to their hearts: Brian House (Children’ Hospice) and CRY (Cardiac Risk in the Young).
The aisles of the village church provided an excellent runway for the team to showcase a range of pre-loved and good-as-new clothes to a most appreciative audience. The models strutted their stuff up and down the catwalk, wearing a selection of day wear, holiday wear and evening wear from high-street brands to more high-end couture.
Models teamed their clothing with accessories for maximum impact and demonstrated the wearability of the outfits for a range of occasions.
The MC for the evening – Pam – gave a running commentary, offering rich description of each outfit and providing essential information about the brand, the fabric and the sizing.
The audience were captivated by the range of clothes on offer and of course, by the mesmerising smiles of the participants!
Knitwear, suits, separates, dresses galore and every accessory you could ever dream of, from boho beads to sparkling shoes, had been generously donated by parishioners, villagers, family and friends from far and wide in support of the two nominated charities.
By the end of the evening, a whopping total of over £700 had been raised! The total is still rising as further donations come in, so watch this space for updates.
The team wish to express their grateful thanks to everyone involved in the event; those who made it happen and those who supported it. Thank you one and all.
