The Spring Term programme of Raise and Praise, has focused on Bible stories which all point to who Jesus is. The narratives recounting the visit of the Magi, Jesus in the temple, His baptism and the miracles He performed each explore unique features of Jesus’ identity – His divine purpose, His humility, His miraculous power.
The final service concluding this series, built on the growing mission of Jesus and zoomed in on His triumphal entry into Jerusalem, where He is embraced as King.
Those gathered heard the details of this occasion – His chosen mode of transport – a young donkey, His joyful reception by the crowds of people who waited to greet Him, the use of palm branches to celebrate the arrival of the King and chants of ‘Hosanna’, praising Jesus.
Using a soft toy donkey, the youngsters enthusiastically recreated the scene, wafting flags and palm leaves in celebration in addition to shouting, “Hosanna! Hosanna! Hosanna – the light of the world has come!” Jesus’ entry into Jerusalem is filled with symbolism of humility, peace and hope. Rev. Naomi used this scene to draw parallels with our own lives and challenged her listeners to think of someone who has been an inspiration or shaped our lives in meaningful ways.

Of course, no Raise and Praise service would be complete without some singing – and ‘We have a king who rides a donkey’ fit the bill perfectly!
Games included an old-time favourite – Musical Statues – which interspersed fun and energy with prayer and reflection.

As always, food was enjoyed by all and kept the energy levels up for some fun crafting which involved weaving palm crosses, making flags and decorating some Hosanna Play Doh mats.
And so, the service concluded, leaving the narrative at a point ready to be built on further in the Easter Family Church service on 19th April 10 – 11.30am in St. Oswald’s Church Hall, Preesall. This is an invitation to explore the story of Easter through science experiments and sensory activities. It’s going to be a blast! Don’t miss it.
