The latest Raise and Praise service focused on the Bible story of Naomi and her family who had to flee their home in Bethlehem because of famine. Much to their relief, they found a welcome in Moab.
When Naomi’s husband and sons die, she is taken care of by her daughter-in-law, Ruth. Together, they return to Bethlehem, even though for Ruth, that means leaving her home and her people, and is therefore quite challenging.
What is extraordinary about this story, is Ruth’s resilience and trust. This is demonstrated when she tells Naomi, “Where you go, I will go, and where you stay, I will stay. Your people will be my people and your God, my God.”
Ben read the story to the assembled group and Rev. Naomi used the narrative to highlight the plight of refugees who similarly have to leave their homes and belongings in extreme circumstances. She chatted about the importance of offering a welcome and friendship to all who struggle with being displaced.
LEGO challenges invited everyone to create a new world, make a shelter, a path or even transport for a journey. Welcome cards and friendship bracelets were made during the craft session to be given to refugee families across the Fylde.
