Getting to the heart of the matter!

The Raise and Praise group took inspiration for the service from 1 Samuel 16:7 – “The Lord does not look at the things people look at. People look at outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.”

Rev. Naomi took everyone by surprise at the beginning, when, after chatting about food likes and dislikes, she started eating from a can of dog food! If that wasn’t shocking enough, she then invited everyone to share the contents of the can with her.

Although the can was clearly labelled as dog food, it actually contained some yummy chocolate! Phew – what a relief!

This engaging opening led on to the Bible story of Samuel being asked by God to find a new king for Israel.

Defying typical human expectations of choosing someone tall and handsome, God chose David, a lowly shepherd, the youngest of seven children and the least impressive son!

The message was clear – God is never dazzled by outward appearance, but instead, He sees straight through to the heart of each one of us. How refreshing!

As usual, a LEGO challenge and a range of crafting activities such as the creation of a light catcher, some magic scratch art and the construction of a bath bomb with a hidden heart, all helped to further explore and amplify this theme.

One of the Raise and Praise community later described the service as ‘inspirational’.
