Thank you to the church family of Stalmine St. James for fundraising, worshipping, donating and standing alongside communities facing poverty this Christian Aid Week.

This year, our support is helping women in Kenya grow food, earn an income and care for their children in the face of hunger and rising living costs.

Year after year, we have come together through Christian Aid Week to challenge injustice and show the power of collective action.

The bunting was up, the banners in place and the collection bucket was out. We were ready for action!

The week began with the All-Age service, led by Pam, Sara and Elaine focusing on the global injustice which exists specifically in Nairobi, where overcrowding, areas without electricity and running water and little employment means that people living there, struggle massively.

Christian Aid has partnered with the ‘Beacon of Hope’ organisation, enabling people like Fridah, in the town of Dagoretti, to learn how to grow vegetables using the urban farm system, and ultimately, feed her children healthy food and sell any surplus.

Videos, stories and songs, plus hands-on activities all tied to the parable of the mustard seed, helped all ages to access both the situations and the solutions. Everyone enjoyed planting their own mustard seed, which literally, gave food for thought.

Seven days later, the church family came together again, to raise funds for Christian Aid, by paying for and sharing a two-course buffet-style lunch.

Once the Holy Communion service was over, parishioners gathered in the meeting room to share food and fellowship.

Happy chatter and the sounds of laughter filled the room, as people tucked in to a mini feast. Savouries and sweet treats filled the tables to capacity; there was plenty for everyone. The end result? £445.00 in the Christian Aid bucket!
