Stalmine Village Hall was filled to capacity for the much anticipated Christmas Carols and Toy Service led by Pam.
Parishioners from St. James’ church joined local residents from neighbouring villages in presenting toys to be donated to the Blackpool’s Women’s Refuge. Colourful gift bags, sparkling wrapping paper and parcels tied up with ribbon, were brought forward to be gratefully received on behalf of the women and children seeking safety over Christmas.
Pilling Jubilee Silver Band were in fine form, playing some much loved carols and the Over Wyre Community Choir sang some lovely seasonal pieces.
Throughout the service, members of the local community, representing key areas such as agriculture, retail, health, safety and the uniformed organisations delivered readings, reflecting on the Christmas story.
The youngest members of the community enjoyed crafting the key figures of the crib with Rev. Naomi and loved presenting them one by one to create the familiar scene.
Prayers and blessings were offered as proceedings came to a close and the Band struck up the rousing notes of ‘We Wish you a Merry Christmas.’ The atmosphere was jubilant as mince pies and glasses of wine were shared over animated chit-chat.
The next part of the day focused on the Parish Lunch. The second room in the Village Hall had been transformed into a space for a festive celebration. Tables were dressed in golden cloths, candles and seasonal foliage. Crackers and groan-worthy jokes made fun place-settings for all to enjoy.
Local caterer, Brenda Murphy, supplied her ‘famous’ hotpot, lasagne and cheese and onion pie which was happily consumed alongside salad, garlic bread, beetroot and red cabbage. St. James’ own catering corps also came up trumps, providing a sumptuous array of desserts to suit every taste!
The afternoon provided an opportunity for the church family to relax, share fellowship and food, ahead of an increasingly busy part of the year.
Thank you to all who supported the day in any way and to all those who made it happen.
Another family-orientated day for the community to remember? Absolutely!
