“And he did what was right in the eyes of the Lord.” (2 Kings 22:2)

The story of Josiah showcases his dedication in following God wholeheartedly.

Josiah did what was right, he followed God completely. He did not turn aside, to the left or the right!

Raise and Praise, led by Gill, opened with a welcome and the song, ‘Shine that the World will See.’

The children were invited to delve into the treasure box, where they found some love hearts and glittery heart badges. These ‘treasures’, demonstrated how much King Josiah loved God.

Moving forwards with the story, the youngsters learned how King Josiah was very sad, when the scroll, detailing God’s rules, was found in the temple. These rules had never been seen before and therefore, not adhered to.

To bring the service to a close, and to thank God for many blessings, the group sang, ‘God is good.’

A young leader read the following words and the group repeated each line in turn, to reinforce the story:

“Josiah was only eight years old,

When he became a king—it’s true!

He did what was right in the eyes of the Lord.

He obeyed every law that he knew.

When the Book of the Law was found in the temple,

Josiah heard laws he didn’t know.

When he found out he had disobeyed,

He cried and he tore his robe!

He gathered his people to read them the laws;

They were sorry with all their heart.

They promised God, “We will obey!”

So, God gave them a brand new start.”

The Raise and Praise service offered plenty of opportunities for the youngsters to actively engage with Josiah’s story. The children went on a hunt for the scroll, reflecting how King Josiah’s priest had found God’s Word of Law in the Temple. They also crafted their own model of King Josiah, holding the scroll in addition to decorating some heart biscuits as a reminder of Josiah’s BIG heart! Glittery crowns and masks were also created – fit for an eight-year old king!
